  Advantages to being a JW

  i'd say that the biggest advantage of being a jw is that you learn the bible.

  growing up a jw (never baptized), i had many friends (mostly catholic) who didn't even know where most books of the bible were even located.

  jws really do learn and study the bible and this knowledge becomes very helpful once you start looking at the bible more objectively and not with wts binders.

  I stongly disagree all the statements in red. The Watchtower is the Truth. I'd wish all the apostates would just accept that we are Jehovah Witnesses we have our belief's they should just accept the fact and move on with your own life's.

  I have moved on with my life. If you chose to be a slave to the WTBTS that is your choice. Just as it is my choice to discuss what I've been through and how I came out of that organization along with anything I want to share on this forum. Most of us here have that in common.

  My advise to you is ... you need to learn more about the organization you serve. Notice that you said "THE WATCHTOWER IS THE TRUTH" Where does the BIBLE come in at?????????

  I think the difference in opinion as to jdubs 'knowing their bible' may boil down to this: JW's know the bible 'STORIES' ie. the reason I always clear the bible column on Jeapordy! And they know the scriptures that support WT doctrine and interpretation.

  I remember a few pios. who knew the book and verse off the top of their heads ... me, I could remember what the scripture said and use the index pretty quickly to find it ... always in rebuttal and to support WT interpretations.

  Apostates' Idealised Image of their Time as a Witness

  i know some apostates become bitter and can see nothing good in their time spent as witnesses, but i am not talking about that kind of apostate.

  i am talking about the other kind of apostate who tends to idealise certain aspects of their time in the witnesses.

  what motivates such sentiments i wonder?

  I'm with upside/down ... SBF ... either you're for us or against us. If you're for them, more power to you. There are over 6 million people being duped by the WTS, what's one more mean to me?

  the real purpose of field service

  i've been racking this around my brain for a minute now.

  you've got people puttin in an average of 10 hours a month, giving away countless publications, and still only converting one or two families every 20 years or so.

  this raises an obvious question, "if the door to door ministry doesn't bring in converts why do it?

  The answer to this may lie in the literature offer for January 2005:

  ANY book published prior to 1990.

  If FS were truly about people you wouldn't need any book other than the bible. FS is all about M-O-N-E-Y!

  I peeped the 'double contribution' BS as soon as the 'voluntary donation' arrangement was implemented. That move helped me along in my disillusionment. I don't understand how the old timer's can keep holding on. Don't they realize that the 'real' life is passing them by?

  Have witness friends done crazy things to you?

  in the last several years i have had jw friends do some crazy things to me which deeply disappointed me.

  and i might add these are people who i considered to be friends.

  one left her husband and just decided to cut off all contact with me.

  Hey LHG ... I had several disappointing 'friendships' while in the org. I am sure I also disappointed people. When one chooses ones friends based on their 'spiritual strength' and potential to be 'good association' you're going to have problems. How can you have a REAL friendship with someone when you can't tell them your darkest secrets, your fears, and especially your DOUBTS about the faith you have in common? That's not truly a friendship in my opinion. Plus, when the person leaves the borg ... the friendship's over anyway. Therefore the friendship was based mainly on the religion and the religion imposes it's values, opinions and culture upon you ... that's what we had in common then.

  On another note - because I left my childhood friends behind when I became a JW, I found myself as an adult with no long-time, close friends. The few people I have called friends since have disappointed me sometimes, I'm sure I've done the same. It's not intentional I don't think. I like this one e-mail I got that says: some friends are friends for a reason, some are friends for a season ... just take it as it comes.

  It's not that I can't 'listen' to another persons 'interpretation' of the Bible. The problem is you and anyone else may 'interpret' things any way you like. But don't expect others (me specifically) to buy into it and live my life by it. I spent 12 years of my life (wasted is more appropriate) living according to somebody elses rules because according to thier 'interpretation' of the Bible, they are supposedly 'God's sole channel of communication to mankind on earth.

  I won't fall for that BS again. I'd rather live according to my own interpretation of life. Then at least I'll only have myself to blame if I'm wrong. I can live with that.

  As for being annointed to serve on the writing committee, Ex-Bethalites can tell you more about that. An incredible hulk is probably is great aid to bible understanding though

  Absolutely no offense intended. I just don't believe that the Bible is God's inspired word anymore.

  Maybe i'm just simple minded but: is there a possibility that the child died for other reasons not caused by God's hand and Jehovah allowed it to happen because David needed to reep what he sowed. Children die everyday for all sorts of reasons. Birth defects etc...I don't believe the child died by God's hand but rather God knew that the child would die (perhaps from other causes) and he just let David know that his child would die.

  I remember the pios. Telling horror stories of what happens to people after leaving the troof ? they become demon possessed ? get shot ? stabbed ... raped ...never a happy ending. BIG ASS LIARS!!! I?ve never been so happy and successful in my life!

  Good question U/D ... I wouldn't know. I hardly see any of them any more ... saw a couple sad looking specimens doing 'evening witnessing' Tuesday night (rv's no doubt) must've been pios.

  I don't know how they're doing but boy are they a miserable looking lot. Sometimes I feel like going to spy on the congreation thou. But I don't think I could take once they start singing those slave songs and ... then ... the ... talk I gotta go ...

  I wear sexy clothes, cuss like the sailor my mama must have known (lol), celebrate holidays like I'm brand new , read whatever I want, watch scary movies without getting scared (after 12 years of terror in the Borg - even real life doesn't scare me anymore let alone a movie) - oh yeah ... and I have whatever type of sex I want cause I don't have to tell anybody about it and it ain't nobody's business anyway.

  I can finally shake my a** and dance like I want to too.

  I've had 3 years of college, go on all the school field trips with my kids , been to church a few times too.

  I'm a real wild child now

  This is paradise
